Dear Friends,
You, your family and friends are kindly invited to participate in the Esala Poya ceremony to be held on Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at the Vihara.
Esala Poya is the full moon day of July. As Buddhists, it is of great significance to us because of many things that occurred on an Esala poya day.
The Bodhisatwa was conceived in Queen Maha Maya on an Esala Poya. Prince Siddhartha also made the renunciation of worldly pleasures and fortune and made the great withdrawal "Abhinikmana" on an Esala poya day. It is the poya that the Lord Buddha preached his first sermon, the Dhammachakkappavattana Sutta, to the panchavaggiyyas . The preaching of the Abhidhamma to his mother in the Thusita heaven by Lord Buddha was also on an Esala Poya day. It is also the poya where the Vas season starts.
We will be providing the Heel Dhana for the Maha Sangha and Upaska/Upasikas. The Daval Dhana will be provided along with the participation of everyone who wishes to bring a dish.
Please find the menu and the sign up sheet posted here and indicate the number of participants.
If you have any questions or suggestions, contact the vihara.
We hope that you will be able to participate in the Poya program and look forward to seeing you all at the Vihara.
Thank you.
May the Triple Gem bless you.
